We took a multi-stage trip to the low country to celebrate Ryan's birthday in September. We started off at Hunting Island State Park where the weather & internet service were both a little challenging. Our first day on the beach wasn't bad, but then the rain and wind moved in. Fortunately, it was nice enough to take a trip into Beaufort for lunch and some shopping with Dolly. I was able to get some decent walks on the beach while we were there as well. We did cut our trip a little short because of the lack of internet, though. This was a trip where we needed to work remotely part of the time, so it was somewhat of a necessity. Luckily, our site at Hilton Head National RV was available for the couple of days before our already scheduled reservation, so we booked that and moved onto that part of the trip.
Once we got settled in at Hilton Head, we wasted no time to get out and about and explore. It rained the entire time that we were there in May, so we wanted to see a little more of the island and take Dolly to some of the pet friendly spots. We hit the Skull Creek Boathouse restaurant for a really delicious meal (and some really pretty views) one evening. We also checked out Burnt Church Distillery in Bluffton for lunch one day. We were only able to sit outside because we had Dolly with us, but we peeked inside and it's a really cool place. We didn't try any of their liquor because it was only lunch time and liquor isn't really my thing. We had to order our food and drinks from our phones and then everything was delivered by a server. Kind of odd & impersonal, but the food was pretty good. I'm guessing that the outdoor area is much more fun at night when they have music or entertainment out there.
Savannah is only a 35 minute drive from HHN so Ryan decided that it would be fun for us to drive in for his birthday brunch on that Saturday. Savannah is one of my favorite places to visit, so I was all for it. We ate at J. Christopher's and it was pretty fantastic. Not only did they have delicious food, but they also had specialty doggy breakfast bowls on the menu and were a Georgia Bulldogs restaurant. It was kismet. Dolly loved her bowl and had the best time people watching, meeting people, and just enjoying the view. After breakfast we took a stroll around town to take in the beauty of the live oaks and Spanish moss before heading back to the campground. Luckily, the Dawgs were able to pull out a win for us that day too (although Dolls had to gear up in her lucky jersey at the half).
